Myrtle Beach Restaurants Try to prevent Credit Card Theft

Posted by admin | Myrtle Beach Restaurants | Monday 6 April 2009 2:33 am

Believe me, all the best restaurants have procedures and methods to prevent this, but occaxionally it does happen.  Just a couple things to be aware of…

Restaurant Credit Card Theft

Chefs and restaurant owners want to know how to prevent customers’ identity theft, so the speaker at the August 2007 meeting of the Myrtle Beach chapter of the American Culinary Federation was Jay Shavitz of Infinity Computer Systems. He explained how credit card information theft can occur at restaurants.

It’s called credit card skimming, he said, and some restaurant servers are recruited by crime rings. The bad guys give the servers pocket-size ’skimmers.’ When the server gets a credit card and takes it to swipe in the restaurant’s credit card terminal, he also gives the card a quick swipe through the skimmer. The skimmer gets the card’s information off its magnetic strip and stores it.

‘The skimmers can hold information from 200 to 300 credit cards,’ Jay said, ‘and then they download the info on their computers at home and send it out of the country.’

Restaurants account for about 90 percent of all credit card skimming, he said, because a restaurant is just about the only environment where upon payment the credit cards are removed from customers’ views.

Jay then explained how the hand-held system his company sells can be used to take orders tableside (servers can even write on the mini-computer’s screen), and it doubles as a portable credit card terminal. That way the credit card is never out of the customer’s view. The units’ batteries are good for about nine hours, so one unit can get through three shifts on two batteries. It’s also possible to have a belt-size printer so customer receipts can be printed on the spot.

The choices are plentiful and experts can help golfers choose the courses that are right for their skill level, ensuring an enjoyable game.

Packages such as these may include beachfront accommodations but quite often offer lodging at golf villas, condos, or hotels located on the grounds of a chosen golf course. Pizza Online Myrtle Beach

Posted by admin | Myrtle Beach Entertainment | Thursday 26 March 2009 5:57 pm

Order Pizza Online in Myrtle Beach or North Myrtle Beach

Have you ever traveled far from home and wanted pizza like you got at your local pizza shop back home?

Well, in Myrtle Beach or North Myrtle Beach, you can get pizza that is reminiscent of any pizza in the world.  I’m from Central NY, far from NY City.  But we have a couple local delicacies that I do rather enjoy and one of them is the style of pizza we have.  Another is Buffalo wings (Buffalo NY) and another that you may not be able to get in your hometown is Salt Potatoes.  I’ve had people in from other sections of even NYS that didn’t know what they were.  And delicious?!?!  Oh MY.  Find as small a potatoes as you can, preferably about an inch and one half in diameter, and just boil them in salt water.  Serve whole and dipped in hot butter or butter substitute.

If you need the number of a good pizza shop on the Grand Strand, be sure and check our listings.  You will find one just suited to what your mouth is watering for tonite!  Of make reservations at one of the fine Italian Restaurants in town.  Seafood.  Country Style, Ribs, Chinese.  What would you like to eat tonite?

THe food is plentiful and reasonable on the Grand Strand.  Take advantage of it.  You can diet when you get home.  Or go for a wonderful walk on the beach while here.  No sense taking those pounds home with you.  :-)

But back to our pizza dilemma.  Myrtle Beach has more styles of pizza than I even knew existed.  Everything from California, to a pita based pizza.  Small ones on English Muffins to large regular pizza.  Thick and chewy, thin and crispy.  Fill your crust with extra cheese or as a purist.  Chicago Style with extra sauce dripping off.

So many kinds of pizza in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, so little time.  So whether you are after that home town flavor, or want to travel the world, pizza style.  You’ve come to the right place.  It’s all here waiting for your selection.

Here’s even a video of Breakfast pizza.  Yup, they serve in Myrtle Beach.  How can you not?

Ed. Note:  The Grand Strand, as the sprawl of Myrtle Beach is called, includes several communities.  Starting from the north touching N Carolina, is North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Garden City Beach, Litchfield Beach and Ending in the south with Pawley’s Island
Each has their own top notch pizza shops.

Myrtle Beach Weddings

Myrtle Beach Weddings

Just the thought of Myrtle Beach Weddings brings to mind a sense of beauty with exotic sand beaches and the gentle surf rolling in and out.  What a way to start a new life. UNLESS YOU ARE A FATHER of the bride!  Make that 2 brides.  Then in this harsh economic time it becomes more a sense of Oh My God!  HELP!  Of course I say that tongue in cheek.

Our youngest daughter went to college there for Marine Biology, graduated in December and is marrying her college love on the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach Weddings as it is known.  Truly one of those spots that God has graced with His gentle Mercy and loving hand.  What a spot for an unforgettable romantic wedding ceremony.  I grant them that.

Until of course, a slightly older sister hears about it and makes her plans to have a very similar ceremony, trashing the plans of 3 months, plus, in favor of the "perfect" spot for her wedding as well.  Not that I really begrudge her, but getting deposits back isn’t fun.  And this new setting isn’t made for the budget minded father of the bride.   At least not when they are as at the mercy of the spending gods, as such a situation brings forth.

And of course it can’t be on the same day, "Oh, Dad, how lame!  This is MY special day."

Getting Married on Myrtle Beach - Beach Wedding

"Of course it is, honey.  I don’t know what I was thinking.  Forgive me, as I am only a Dad."  So much for the economies of numbers, as you can well imagine.  Certainly no need to save money on such glorious occasions.  I can see  your head nodding.  Up and down for the men, sideways for the women.

It all started with the youngest going to college in the area and having to pick her up when they closed for the Thanksgiving recess.  I decided what a great time for a little bonding, and instead of bringing her home and back, I rented a condo on the ocean front overlooking the beach for a week.

Now up here alongside Lake Ontario in NY state, it’s a little different weather that time of year.  But there, holy cow, what a vacation it turned out to be.  I got the condo for under $100 a day, 3 bedroom, 2 bath.  And being a girl, she reveled in having one bedroom for a closet after being in the dorm, and the other to sleep in.

Needless to say, we had a great time.  Enjoyed the weather, had to forgo some of the best of hunting season, but for my little girls, it was worth it.  Ah the sacrifices for a little sunshine…

Went down the next year to pick her up at the end of her freshman season, did the same thing and got stuck in Bike Week.  Now that was an adventure.  A little loud at times, but interesting.  Same rental Condo Building, just a 2 bedroom.  Made her compromise on her closet arrangements.  She made it though.

Nothing like waking to the sound of the surf gently rolling in and out, coming thru the open patio door.  How relaxing.
condo rental in myrtle beach

So that short history brings us to this year and 2 weddings in the same month.  All I can say is that thank heaven that May is still the Myrtle Beach off season.

I do have to say, it is a wonderful venue for a wedding.  If you thinking about it for your angel(s), many of the resorts offer planning services or referrals for events of this nature.  Overall, a Myrtle Beach wedding(s) is a memory for a lifetime.

Myrtle Beach Off Season - Myrtle Beach Condo Rentals

Myrtle Beach Off Season - Myrtle Beach Condo Rentals
myrtle beach oceanfront condo rentals

Myrtle Beach Off Season, which includes some of the Bike Week Festivities, can be a GREAT time to rent a Condo in Myrtle Beach.  My daughter choose to go to college at a nearby university and the week that the dorms closed and I had to go pick her up, I found that I could stay in a beautiful Myrtle Beach oceanfront condo for actually less than what I expected to spend for a Holiday Inn.
myrtle beach off seasonI’m talking a 3 bedroom oceanfront condominium with a balcony over the beach.  Leaving the Master bedroom sliding glass door open, let you awaken to the soothing sound of the morning surf just outside. Talk about relaxing in Paradise!

And if you visit Myrtle Beach in the off season, you can still have some great weather to walk the beach or wade for shells.  It’s a little cold for an adult’s liking to be swimming in the ocean, but there are heartier kids that certainly do take the plunge in Myrtle’s waters.

As the collection of municipalities, the area is called the Grand Strand.  And it is certainly an understatement.  Miles and miles of beach, restaurant after restaurant, and activities for all dot the Route 17 Main Thoroughfare.  My daughter and I had a miniature gold tournament at 3 or 4 different courses.  golf courses myrtle beach Full golf courses are plentiful, as are the unique shopping opportunities.  Aquariums, roller coaster, walking piers, eatery’s, shelling, flea markets,… I could go on, but you get the idea.  There is no shortage of something to do in Myrtle Beach.

I would add that this includes some main event entertainment from the Carolina Theater to the Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede.  The Stampede is a unique experience of showmanship and a meal, albeit without utensils.  Don’t want to spoil the fun, just go and be surprised.  It’s one price for the food and fun.

grand strand vacations  This Grand Strand actually starts just south, of N Carolina State Border with Little River, then North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Garden City, Murrell’s Inlet, and finally Pawley’s Island.   The most active of which I would call Myrtle and North Myrtle Beach.

To best start your Myrtle Beach adventure, let me suggest you make a pit stop if driving in, at the tourist information booth you will find in most every direction.  Clean rest rooms and itinerary filling brochures will abound.  If you are an water person as I am, this will be a family vacation to remember.

This spring, I’m not going down to Myrtle to pick up my little girl.  She has grown, graduated in December and is being married in May a Myrtle Beach Wedding ceremony. But you can bet we will return to a Myrtle Beach oceanfront condo for that R & R that doesn’t grow on trees.  Despite what my brother, the mountain person, said.

Golf Courses of Myrtle Beach

Golf Courses Myrtle Beach

 Golf Courses Myrtle Beach

South Carolina has long been a popular vacation and recreation destination, especially the Myrtle Beach area. Consequentially, the state is blessed with many beautiful public golf courses, including:

1. & 2. The Barefoot Resort and Golf at North Myrtle Beach is home to four different golf courses: the "Norman Course", the "Dye Course", the "Love Course" and the "Fazio Course". The Love and Fazio courses have been rated as two of the best public golf courses in not only the state, but in the country over all, and, as their names imply, were respectively designed by Davis Love III (a Carolina native), and reknown golf architect, Tom Fazio.

3. The Caledonia Golf and Fish Club at Pawleys Island is a beautiful course which has been very highly rated by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek. The course is established on what was once a Carolina rice plantation, and is also home to the Caledonia Grillroom, a popular and hospitable restaurant offering many excellent local and southern dishes.

4. The Dunes Golf and Beach Club at Myrtle Beach is home to one of Robert Trent Jones’s finest designs. The course was first built in 1948, and then further improved by Robert Trent Jones himself in 1976-1977, and 1992. Since then, Robert Trent Jones’ son, Rees Jones, has continued his father’s work and further upgraded the course.

5. The Sea Pines Resort at Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, is home to three golf courses: "Harbour Town Golf Links", the "Ocean Course" and "Sea Marsh". Harbour Town Golf Links has been very highly rated by all of Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golf Weekly. This course offers panoramic ocean views, as well as deep bunkers and lagoons.

6. The Heritage Club at Pawleys Island, is another highly rated and beautiful par 71 course. The clubhouse overlooks the Waccamaw River, and the course itself offers rolling fairways and undulating greens flanked by lsuh vegetation.

7. King’s North at Myrtle Beach National at Myrtle Beach is an 18 hole course designed by Arnold Palmer and Frank Duane that first opened in 1973. The course has many unique and distinctive holes include the 3rd hole which has become a signature hole for the entire Myrtle Beach area, the 5th hole (nicknamed "The Gamber") which offers a risky short-cut to green for a chance at an eagle, and the incredible 18th hole.

8. Kiawah Island Golf Resort is home to no less than five different courses: "Turtle Point", "Osprey Point", "Oak Point", "Cougar Point" and "The Ocean Course". The most highly regarded of these is the Ocean Course which was built in 1991 by Pete Dye. This course offers 10 ocean side holes, more than any other course in the Northern hemisphere, and is probably the course most affected by wind in the entire country, if not the entire world outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The most remarkable feature of the Ocean Course is that the play is completely different depending on the direction of the wind!

9. Tidewater Golf at North Myrtle Beach is a well regarded course that offers challenging but playable golf, suitable for both pros and lesser players.

Myrtle Beach Real Estate

Posted by admin | Myrtle Beach Hotels, Condos, and Resorts | Sunday 22 March 2009 1:33 am

Myrtle Beach Real Estate

Briarcliffe Acres
Briarcliffe Acres is a premier location for homes in the Myrtle Beach area. One of the first subdivisions developed on the north side of Myrtle Beach, most lots are well over an acre, and each home is unique and elegant. With gentle curving drives, original old-growth forest, and natural landscaping, Briarcliffe Acres is reminiscent of the beauty of the old South.

Incorporated as an independent township, Briarcliffe Acres has its own mayor and police force - and its residents happily enjoy the relaxing sense of community. A gated entry to the beach, along with a private beach cabana and walkway over the lovely marsh area, provides appropriate privacy and breathtaking views.

Nearby to Briarcliffe Acres are several other well-established communities, each offering large lots and beautifully well-maintained mature landscaping. These include Briarwood and The Forest at Briarcliffe, both of which are positioned on the Intracoastal Waterway, and a condominium community known as Briarcliffe West.

This particular part of Myrtle Beach has the remote feel of a lush, wooded area; but in fact, there is ample shopping and entertainment nearby. Located just a mile to the south are the Colonial Mall, Tanger Outlet Center, and a Super Wal-Mart; while to the north is Barefoot Landing. Barefoot Landing offers countless dining options and entertainment venues, including favorites the House of Blues and the Alabama Theater, right on the Intracoastal Waterway. A favorite attraction is the ‘Barefoot Princess’ boat tours which leave regularly from the docks.

Loris - Little River
Little River and Loris are the perfect retreats from the busy tourist season - yet still close enough to enjoy all of the benefits and attractions that the Grand Strand has to offer.

Indian tribes called the stream Mineola, meaning ‘little river’ and that became its name. Little River is one of the oldest settlements along the east coast, with fishermen and farmers coming to stay in the late 1600s and 1700s. The river became part of the Intracoastal Waterway in 1936.

Today, Little River is widely known for it’s deep-sea fishing, charter boats and commercial fishing. One of the sights of the day is to watch fishing and shrimp boats going out in the early morning for the day’s catch, with the sun coming up and mist rising from the calm inlet waters. The Blue Crab Festival in May, on the weekend after Mother’s Day, brings thousands of visitors to enjoy the family-oriented events.

Some of the area’s best golf courses, including the famed Heather Glen and Glen Dornoch courses, are located here. A favorite of locals and visitors alike is The Parson’s Table restaurant, where local history and casual fine dining meet and the result is one guaranteed to please!

Little River remains unincorporated, with a census count of about 4,000 residents. A new post office, consolidated schools, golf courses, casino boats, new homes and condominiums, motels and bed-and-breakfast inns attract new residents. Seafood has always been a drawing card.

Development in the late 1800’s drove the Chadbourn Lumber Company (Chadbourn, NC) to purchase a tract of land for $1 and in this way Loris, South Carolina was born. The railroad company built a depot on the land to service their trains and a successful timber business. The name ‘Loris’ has it’s roots with the Chadbourn family. The town is said to have either been named for a novel or a favorite dog belonging to the Chadbourn children. Only history knows the real answer.

Agri-business has always been driving force here - at one time Loris had the largest tobacco market and best cotton market in the state. Today Loris is a thriving city that forms the economic hub of Northern Horry County. Approximately 3,000 residents live inside the city limits, with more than 62,444 people living within a 15 mile radius of Loris. Loris is home to a modern, state-of-the-art hospital, extended care center and Center for Health and Fitness, all a part of the Loris Healthcare System.

Little River is right over the Intracoastal Waterway from North Myrtle Beach, and Loris is adjacent to Little River. Both communities are working hard to preserve the small-town charm that residents and visitors alike have come to love over the years. Enjoy the quiet seclusion of country living… just a short drive from the beach!

Carolina Forest
It was once just a dream, envisioned as a thriving township just over the Intracoastal Waterway from the blossoming metropolis that is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A dream no more, Carolina Forest is a reality… and it is getting better every single day.

Beginning as forestry land for International Paper Company, Carolina Forest was master planned to become the foremost suburban community along the Grand Strand. With its location adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway, and all this potential growth, the planners ensured that ‘green spaces’ would be preserved, and the natural beauty that defines the Carolina coast remains.

Carolina Forest continues to flourish, and its residents already enjoy the conveniences of major shopping centers, banks, a post office and fire station, as well as housing and condominium communities catering to every style, taste, and budget. Brand new schools, numerous churches of various faiths, a major hospital, colleges and universities, as well as convenient highways and thoroughfares are just minutes from your front door.

Located just 10 minutes to the beautiful beaches of the Grand Strand, the Carolina Forest Township offers its residents the close proximity to entertainment venues, shows, and nightlife Myrtle Beach has to offer, while tucked away within hundreds of acres of parks interlaced with hiking trails. The preservation of this natural environment is paramount to the lifestyle Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, and the Grand Strand has to offer.

As Myrtle Beach has become the world’s premier golf destination, Carolina Forest itself is home to half a dozen golf courses - all open to the public. Each offering its own challenging features and beautiful views, the golf enthusiast will no doubt enjoy mastering each and every one… and then venturing just a few miles in either direction to experience any of more than a hundred courses nearby.

And there is much more is to come. A new retail complex, the Carolina Forest Towne Centre, will be located just off the Grissom Parkway Bridge, at the intersection of Carolina Forest Boulevard. A Carolina Forest hospital is already under construction! Initial proposals for the Towne Centre included spaces for medical and dental offices, various shops and boutiques, restaurants and branch campuses for colleges - there will be very little you can’t find in Carolina Forest!

Comfort, convenience, and close to everything… welcome home to Carolina Forest!

Murrells Inlet
Just to the north of Pawleys Island is the quiet fishing village of Murrells Inlet. Known for its great seafood and restaurants along the marsh walk, the village has about 6000 residents who call it home. With close proximity to Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown, you are right in the middle of all the excitement. Convenient day trips include Charleston to the south, Wilmington to the north and Florence to the west.

North Myrtle Beach
North Myrtle Beach is home to Vanna White, and the birth place of South Carolina’s state dance, the shag. Locals are keen to teach newcomers the intricate footwork at Fat Harold’s on Main Street.

The city consists of four sections from north to south: Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, and Windy Hill. In 1968, these formerly separate municipalities were combined into the single town of North Myrtle Beach, with Atlantic Beach choosing to remain independent. Not content to stay in the shadow of its neighbor to the south, North Myrtle Beach has spent heavily to attract more business and tourism over the last 10 years, and the city’s population has almost doubled as a result. The wide-open beaches and pristine marshes of Cherry Grove make North Myrtle Beach a favorite of visitors and locals.

Pawleys Island
On the south end of the Grand Strand is Pawleys Island, located in Georgetown County. Approximately 22 miles south of the Myrtle Beach airport, this laid back area of the Strand strives to maintain its heritage. You won’t find commercial development or highrise hotels here. Surrounded by live oaks, this area has beautiful beaches and a great history. This is how we imagined the beach 20 years ago. Local points of interest include nationally recognized Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park.

Surfside Beach & Garden City Beach & Socastee
The south end, including Socastee, Surfside Beach and Garden City, is more of a family oriented beach and recreation area, yet close to everything the Grand Strand has to offer, including close proximity to the new Hard Rock Theme Park, and just a few minutes from the Seafood Capital of SC, Murrells Inlet. You’ll also enjoy Myrtle Beach State Park, Huntington State Park and Brookgreen Gardens. Also nearby are the Myrtle Beach International Airport, Coastal Grand Mall and Broadway At The Beach.

You’ll find some of the State’s finest schools, Socastee and St. James, surrounded by communities with homes ranging in price from under $200k to well over $1 million.

In Lawson’s Landing, for example, house prices start at under $200k, including access to a nice, new swimming pool with hot tub and access to the Intracoastal Waterway with a boat landing!

Other popular communities include Prince Creek at TPC, Silver Fox at Enterprise, Cypress River, Deerfield, Prestwick, Bermuda Bay in Garden City, The Surfside Beach Club, Island Green Golf Community, Hunters’ Ridge and Arrowhead in Socastee, and many, many more to choose from

There is something for everyone: the beach bum, the boater, the hunter, the fisherman, the retiree, the shopper, the shagger, and the international traveler!

ABOUT US PAGE - DirectoryOfMyrtleBeach.Com

This Page was customized. The original having appeared in a site called Talk City Religions & Spiritualities Forum website as the "about us" page - no longer available online, a site we never had the pleasure of visiting.

But it struck us as being somewhat unique, and very masterful in many ways.  We thank the author. Leslie Ehrle, for providing the basis of this page and hope you get the most out of this possible.  It seems a wonderful way to live your life!

Launched in 2009, the DirectoryOfMyrtleBeach.Com is an electronic community unlimited by physical location or time zone.

We love to engage in spirited conversations - where we come together to talk about what it is we seek, or are, or should be, or might have found. Here, we share our stories - the awakenings, the disasters, the unexpected illuminations. the uncertainties, the pleasures, the losses, and the discoveries of everyday events in our lives.

We giggle at silly jokes and groan at bad puns. We tease and encourage. We argue and make up. We talk, we puzzle, we question and wonder. We connect - in ways that delight and surprise, enliven and enrich us.

We’ve discovered …
• bridges of understanding work better than barriers of distrust
• we learn more when we share
• a little light from another’s path just might illuminate a dark spot in our own
• we contribute to peace when we give others simple respect and space to be themselves
• everyone has some of the answers, but no one has them all
• a :-) can make someone else’s day just a little brighter
• it never hurts to listen
• we don’t have to agree about everything to be friends
• what we learn from participating in this virtual community can enrich our real-world communities in more ways than we imagine

We invite you to join us …
• to share your journey - and the journeys of others
• to delight in new friends and "kindred spirits"
• to ponder "big" questions, like:
- what gives our lives meaning?
- why are we here?
- where are we going?
- how do we live a spiritual life?
- how might we know of God and the divine?
- how might we know of others?
• to find comfort - and give help
• to offer insight - and gain in wisdom
• to laugh - and cry - and celebrate
• to talk - and to listen
• to extend our common ground
• to grow in care and compassion for all members of the human family and the whole of life

You are personally invited to explore our community!

Once again, we thank the original author, Leslie Ehrle.  If you are Ms. Ehrle, we invite you to contact us.  We would love to give you full credit for this work, but being gone from the web, we can’t contact you.  We hope you approve our edits, though few, to customize this to the needs of our site.
